Narnia Book Cover Series

Narnia Book Covers.

Yes, if you've been a graphic design student you have probably created many, many, many book covers for school projects. What's funny is that I had complete freedom to do whatever I wanted on this project and yet what did I choose? Book cover design.

In reality, there was a reason I wanted to do book cover design. These covers were a part of researching the history of illustrative typography in print design and how it has impacted graphic design throughout time. We had to use our research to then create something - anything really! Because of how heavily illustrative type and books were integrated, I went the book cover route. And because I absolutely love Narnia, I went the Narnia route. The covers are conceptual, with hidden meanings and ideas in each of them. Yes, the plants, the stars, the trees, the cracks all have a rhyme and reason for existing. That is the way I like my design: intentional, meaningful.

Below you can see my concept sketches, which were edited and mocked up in Procreate and Adobe Photoshop. Like any old artist or designer, there are things I would change looking back. Regardless, it was a fun project full of whimsy, purpose, and research. *My personal favorite cover is The Magician's Nephew*
